Smoothies, weight loss and why vegetarians are usually never fat


I rarely see an overweight vegetarian.  The fact of the matter is, the  more animal and meat products we eat, the more weight a person can expect to gain.

The primary reason  is that most animals, when being prepared for slaughter, are treated with hormones, antibiotics, steroids and the like- allowing them to achieve a bigger size. This increased size, translates to increased money. If a farmer can bring their chicken, turkey or cow to market in less time, this will result in an increased profit margin.

A person who consumes a diet which consists mostly of fruits and vegetables can prevent exposure to such obesity causing substances, allowing a more normal and healthier weight.

Smoothies are a great way to achieve a high intake of fruits and vegetables.  In addition, this allows a high intake of anti-oxidants which  have disease fighting properties.

Smoothies allow for meal replacement when done correctly.  Our family frequently consumes smoothies for  breakfast,  lunch (on weekends) or sometimes even dinner.  We have had much success using our Vitamix 5200 blender. Personally, this was the best investment we  could have made for our families health and ultimately longevity.

A good smoothie recipe my children, wife an I like includes the following ingredients:

-10 frozen strawberries (rich in anti-oxidants)

-2 bananas (potassium rich)

-1 thick slice of cabbage (cruciferous vegetable with cancer fighting properties)

-1/3 blender of ice cubes

-1 cup of almond milk  (non-fat cow’s milk or soy milk is ok also)

- 2 teaspoons of honey (don’t add too much or the smoothie will be too sweet)

- A scoop of vanilla flavored whey protein

Blend for about 1 minute and serve to the family! Great tasting…

  1. For me it is a new taste: strawberries with cabbage in the same salad.

  2. Erm, a diet high in meat, fish, natural fat is how you LOSE weight. Most vegitarians are fat because they eat high processed carb and sugar diets. And a smoothie should never be a ‘meal replacement’ – Why on earth would you want to replace a meal? Smoothies contain lots of fruit sugar, raise blood sugar levels quickly, incite insulin product and hence cause fat storage. Fruit should be eaten, not drunk.
